Managing Medications PDF  | Print |  E-mail

Managing medication is often a part of the daily routine.  Ensuring that your loved one properly takes medications proves to be essential to keeping your loved one healthier.  Mismanaged medications can lead to serious consequences.  To avoid any potential consequences, the following advice is offered:

  • Take all medication bottles to all appointments with physicians.  Include over-the-counter medications and herbal remedies as these can interact with some prescriptions.
  • Create a medication schedule.  A written list can always help to provide organization.
  • Consider purchasing a medication organizer.  There are the traditional pill boxes with segments for each day and there are hi-tech containers that provide reminders for when medication should be taken.
  • Obtain all medications from a single pharmacy if possible.  Pharmacies can keep track of medications and help prevent potential interactions.
