Alzheimer’s Disease

Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive neurological disease in which brain cells are destroyed.

This form of dementia begins gradually with symptoms of memory loss, problems with thinking, and difficulty communicating.  As the disease progresses, individuals will lose the ability to perform daily tasks, communicate, and recognize family.  The individual will lose awareness of who they are.

An individual living with Alzheimer’s will need assistance with daily living as the disease progresses.  Providing care for an individual with Alzheimer’s will be difficult work.  However, educating yourself and finding sources that can provide respite and support will be beneficial to you and your loved one.

There is no cure of the disease, but medications can slow the advancement of the disease.  Also, massage, light therapy, calming music, exercise, and supplements can help manage this disease.
